On the scale of government
It’s time to reimagine America for the twenty-first century
What lies ahead is a moment for America to reimagine how its government can work better and smarter. We have an aging infrastructure that is unable to withstand the advances of the twenty-first century. And our political institutions are deeply intertwined with the past.
We need to harness the power of public and private resources to increase opportunity and equality and bring America into a security and prosperity.
Four years ago America elected a supposed businessman as president. Conservatives generally believe that American democracy is best when it governs least.
But that’s thinking about government through an eighteenth century lens and in a zero sum free-market environment.
The wellbeing of our sovereignty and the general welfare of our citizenry will be better off with a shift toward equity and social capitalism.
What elements of a prosperous society can and should be scaled through the efficient and effective administration of government?
What mechanisms should be left to private enterprise?
Reinventing America for the twenty-first century demands that we spend time with these questions.
The next four years will require a lot of healing. We must capture the hope from that healing into a better, more perfect union.
